Speaking of the canon crew… Thursday, Apr 12 2007

Speaking of the canon crew… Here are a few images from maybe 4 or 5 years ago of an ALL FEMALE canon crew. Mainly consisting of my family members, this is the first time as a group we manned the canon. I believe this may have also been the first, but certainly not the last, time that an ALL FEMALE canon crew was put together in this unit? I could be wrong…

FYI…I’m the one in the blue petticoat and red socks. It was my job to actually fire the canon. I had the “boom-stick” čÖé

War Thursday, Apr 12 2007

So I don’t really know why I was thinking about this today, I personally do not like to dwell on war, but it popped into my head…and there it stayed for the rest of the day. The current war time aside I couldn’t help but compare it to what I do as a living history participant. I do not want to get into my own political beliefs, but I think everyone would agree that war is simply no fun. So…why do we re-enact it? Think about it. We, and by “we” I mean our country (the good old USA), re-enact battles from the French and Indian War, Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and the Civil War. We won’t get into the medieval festival things… [I’m speaking of what I know] Anyways…war times are horrific periods, as they happen we pray for them to end and the blood shed to cease. So why do we spend our weekends re-enacting bloodshed?

This may seem odd, I have been a living history participant for going on give or take 5 years now, and I have never really put that much thought into the war aspect, which really is the major event. I’m even a member of the canon crew! I help fire a canon across the field toward my “enemies”. I’ve just always been so caught up in the dress and social aspect of the events. Yes I am perhaps that shallow, give me a pretty hat with a red feather and I’m content. čÖé

Now that I have started thinking about this, I can’t stop. This may seem extremely obvious to everyone else, but like I said I have never really given it much thought. Did I mention I am a blonde? Ha Ha Ha…I jest.

I would love some feedback. Agree? Disagree? Don’t Care?

I’m still brainstorming, but I am now working on ways of creating an image reflecting what I have just said. Still in the works…stay tuned for some work prints.

Woman with a musket Saturday, Apr 7 2007

This is a photograph I took a few weeks ago of my sister with our step-father’s musket. I was going for this female-dominating look. I believe I was successful. Don’t mess with a girl and her musket! Lauren with┬áMusket
